  • Disasters are uncommon and occur only once every few decades or a few hundred years, there is little scientific data available, and there are not enough measures to make use of this knowledge for disaster management. In this context, one goal is to estimate the maximum possible disaster event, to estimate the frequency by modeling the statistical features of disaster factors, and to predict the features of disasters that may occur in the future (which are now considered idiosyncratic but may become commonplace in the future). We also conduct basic research on the mechanism of transport phenomena, such as hydraulic experiments and simulations on the flow around structures and the forces acting on them, in order to reduce the damage from such disasters and improve the coastal environment.

  • I will teach the current problems of urban engineering and how to acquire the ability to "research, discuss, and communicate" necessary for an engineer. In the Fundamentals of Mechanics and Mathematics for Urban Engineering, I will teach on the application of mathematics in urban engineering. In programming exercises, I teach specific techniques from the basics to the application of programming. Surveying is a fundamental technology for designing structures and surveying activities, and I will teach the specific method of surveying in my practical training. In the hydraulics exercise, we will teach computational methods for solving specific problems in hydraulics. In Experiment I for urban engineers, we will teach how to write a report on fluid mechanics, dealing with actual measurements and verification of the theory. In addition, I will teach hazard maps as a theme in the community disaster prevention course.
